Outdoor Training

Outdoor Training is required for those who wish to take troops camping. Topics include minimal impact camping (Leave No Trace), outdoor program progression, keeping safe, outdoor living skills, planning, trip preparation and evaluation.

This training is required for volunteers who wish to take troops on outdoor activities(which include camping overnight and outdoor cooking over open flame). The Girl Scout leader/advisor does not have to be the one to take the training--any registered adult who agrees to take the lead for planning and implementing an outdoor event incorporating girl/adult planning can take the training. The adult who completes Outdoor Training must accompany the troop on all outdoor activities.

Training Content:

  • Minimal impact camping techniques
  • Health and safety standards
  • Clothing and equipment
  • Outdoor skills: cooking, knots, knives and shelters
  • Girl/Adult planning
  • Planning/conducting an overnight tent camping trip

Prerequisite:

  • Welcome to Girl Scouting (New Volunteer Orientation)
  • Welcome to Girl Scouting is conducted by the Overseas Committee Chair (or her/his designee) in your local community

Course Fee:

  • Outdoor Training costs $15.00 (which covers the cost of food and supplement program resources) plus an optional $12.00 fee to purchase the Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting book, if desired
  • All transportation costs are the responsibility of the participants
