Fair Share?

Girls who have a Military/Department of Defense (DoD) affiliation and are registered members of USAGSO-NA receive a financial sponsorship through non-appropriated funds paid directly to the USAGSO-NA. The current individual Girl Scout sponsorship is $110.00 per girl member. This money helps subsidize direct and indirect services to Girl Scouts and Overseas Committees. The US Military also provides office space for the USAGSO-NA headquarters located at Camp Darby, the Camp Lachenwald facilities, telephone, computers, internet access and utilities for both facilities at minimal cost.

The MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that USAGSO-NA has with the Department of Defense states that we may serve US citizens that are not a part of the Military or employed by DoD provided that a “Fair Share” equal to the amount the military supports each girl, is paid for each non-DoD girl member. This is why Girl Scout members who are not affiliated with the US Military/DoD must pay the designated Fair Share amount each year.

The Overseas Committee is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the parent employer information on each Girl Membership Registration Form. The Fair Share for those girls who are non-DoD affiliated must accompany the membership registration dues. This is paid by the individual. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to seek a sponsorship through their place of employment for their Girl Scout’s Fair Share. Check with your Director of Membership and Marketing for the current Fair Share rate for non-DoD affiliated Girl Scout members.

The DoD, through Military Welfare and Recreation (MWR) computes our military Fair Share allocation based on the previous year’s final membership number. They will periodically audit our records to ensure that only DoD affiliated girls receive the military Fair Share. Parents and guardians must be sure to fill out the parent employer information on the Membership Registration form, otherwise it will be assumed that you are not affiliated with the US Military/DOD in any way and will be assessed the Fair Share rate for non military/DoD.
