The BFZ Is Now Available for Download!
You've heard the buzz, now bring The Bully Free Zone! directly to your troop! Our bullying awareness program has been funded for two years by the U.S Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and Girl Scouts of the USA. Programs were implemented by girl leadership teams with guidance from adult advisors in 18 Overseas Committees and at Camp Lachenwald in 2006 and 2007.
We have designed program packets for the following:
- Grades K-1
- Grades 2-3
- Grades 4-5
- Grades 6-8
The packets have been designed to reflect the new membership standards which will be launched October 2008. Feel free to use more than one program packet to reach your target audience. For example if you have a Girl Scout Brownie troop, grades 1-3, select activities from the Grades K-1 and 2-3 packets.
Each packet contains at least 8 different activities for your selection. There are step by step instructions as well as detailed supply lists (if required) for each activity. Handouts and girl evaluation forms are also included in the packet. We encourage you to evaluate the program with your girls and please share your feedback too!
Grades K-I and Grades 2-3 program packets include a "Book Club" activity. The books:

- My Secret Bully by Trudy Ludwig for Grades 2-3
can be borrowed from USAGSO-NA for 3 weeks. A $15.00 deposit is required. Contact Mary Edna Wuertenberger at mary.wuertenberger@EUR.ARMY.MIL to reserve your copy - there is a limited supply. Please include a full mailing address with the request. The books can be ordered from Amazon.com if you want your own copy.
Grades K-1 and 4-5 packets also include one activity each from the GSUSA Staying Safe Series. Grades 6-8 includes on activity from the STUDIO 2B Take Charge Focus Book. Check your Overseas Committee library for copies of these resources. They are also available for purchase from the USAGSO-NA Shop.
If your troop is registered with USA Girl Scouts Overseas - North Atlantic, girls and adults can receive the Bully Free patch for completing:
- Grades K-1 - 4 activities
- Grades 2-3 - 5 activities
- Grades 4-5 - 6 activities
- Grades 6-8 - 6 activities
The patches will be available after 1 January 2008. You can order the patches directly from our USAGSO-NA Girl Shop. Either drop by the Shop on published opening days or shop on-line at The Girl Scout Shop. You must complete the "Evaluation Summary" prior to ordering the patches. This form is available for download (below) or contact Mary Edna Wuertenberger at mary.wuertenberger@EUR.ARMY.MIL for a fillable form.
For grades 9-12 we are offering the "No Way RA!" program, used with permission from Girl Scouts of Mile High Council. Relational Aggression has been identified as "behavior that is intended to hurt someone by harming her/his relationships with others." While relational aggression can be observed in girls as young as 4-5 years, it is the most common form of bullying for tweens and teens.
Please follow the instructions in the packet for completing the program and ordering the patch.
